In aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust

Abbi's song

"In January 2018 I was asked to sing at the bedside of someone I'd never met. Abbi had found comfort in my songs, as she fought bravely against leukaemia, but her family had brought her home knowing she didn’t have long left with them. I was deeply moved by this request; but next day, just as I was setting off, I received a message to say I was too late. Abbi was gone. That day I wrote Abbi's Song."

ABBI BANKS

Abbi was just 21 when her 2nd experience of leukaemia shortened the length of her life in January 2018. At the launch event Abbi’s Song raised funds for The Teenage Cancer Trust through donations made on the night and also raised awareness of the struggles young people with serious illness have to face. Abbi’s TCT specialist nurse came and spoke about her work supporting young people and where the money raised would go to help.
Special edition CDs of Abbi’s song were sold on the night and the song was available to purchase online, also with the option of being able to make donations. Friends and family came to hear the story of how Abbi’s Song was created by the talented Becky Higg and celebrated her life with us. Some of Abbi’s artwork was displayed and Emma Owen, a guest speaker from the charity Respect Me, came to share about their work in schools. This charity’s work fits well with Abbi’s passion for empowerment that is seen through her artwork. Please see our Friends page for links to the organisations represented on the night of Abbi’s Song Launch and more who we are also connected with.
